History of Drunken Dragons

An Overview

Welcome to our Tavern! Most of our members are between the ages of 18 and 35. If you wish to raid with a casual, albeit sometimes vulgar, friendly group of people you have found the right place! If you are interested in applying please fill out an application in our forums. Instructions and the format of the application can be found under the subject Wyrmling’s Nest!

Since the days of our first founding we have worked hard to make Drunken Dragons a friendly and casual atmosphere for all our members. We have seen a fair bit of drama in the past but we have survived, and learned a great deal from all of it. Today the guild is running more smoothly than it ever has in the past and many of our members can attest to the fun we have in raids.

Our History

Drunken Dragons was first founded about one month after the game was released in 2004 by me and a couple friends from college. The original purchaser of the guild was Oldmage, who can be seen online from time to time on one of his alts. At first there was some debate as to what to name the guild. Eventually we settled on Drunken Pandas. To our dismay, however, we discovered that the name was not available. At that point Oldmage suggested Drunken Dragons, the name sounded good so we went with it. We had a very slow start to begin with, mostly it was just a few real life friends leveling our characters and exploring the world. Due to different paces of leveling, I was especially slow, never really taking to my first character Thorin. We eventually grew distant in the game and went our separate ways. Oldmage left to join Sacred Ground and passed guild control to Thorin about the same time I defected to the Horde to play an undead mage. And for over a year the guild lay dormant.

For a brief time towards the end of classic WoW, I came back to the alliance and joined Ante Meridiem with Tawnee back in the days when AM was struggling to clear to Ragnoros. Yes, AM has not always been a top guild on the server! Control of Drunken Dragons was passed to Havana for a brief time and then to one of Tawnee’s other characters. Towards the end of classic I became compelled to rejoin the horde and level my mage to 70. Shortly after hitting 70, Alaska called and I took a three month hiatus from the game. To say the least the trip put my mage far behind progression. After returning I found myself alone, stuck in a limbo between those that had been actively raiding and very new players that were just hitting 70. Around this time Tawnee decided to begin playing once more along with two other friends from college, Irtankgood and Arizel. Together we decided to really put forth some effort and bring Drunken Dragons back from dormancy.

We began playing our alliance characters and quickly leveled together to 70 recruiting as we progressed. At 70, we realized that we had many newer players in our guild who had little to no experience raiding. To introduce them to raiding we began running classic public raids. From these raids our members learned a great deal, and we were able to establish our style of running raids as a casual fun experience. Running the classics attracted more players and we slowly grew. As our gear improved we began delving into BC content. At first our progress was steady and we were doing quite well. Since we were still a small guild we relied on alliances to form larger raids. Our first and longest lasting partner was with Revenge of the Alliance. The alliance with RotA was beneficial to both guilds for quite some time. But alas, drama was creeping within the upper echelons of Drunken Dragons.

During the summer while away to work at a new internship, guild control passed to Irtankgood. Control seemed to pass at a very inopportune time. Feuding broke out between the officers, and the guild quickly fell to disarray. Progression and attendance to raids nearly stopped. We lost many good raiders to other guilds during that summer while drama festered within the guild. When the summer ended, the guild was in tatters with only a few very dedicated members remaining. Pressing forward, we began to rebuild. Wrath of the Lich King was looming and we had little time to rebuild and begin fresh recruiting. Rather than trying to build up to a 25-man team we decided to press hard into Zul’Aman to improve our raiding skill and prepare for the coming expansion. When the pre-expansion patch hit we seized the opportunity to once again conduct public raids. We successfully cleared nearly all the Burning Crusade content enabling many who did not have the opportunity previously to see content they were unable to access prior to the patch. During this time we gained many new members eager to press on in the next expansion.

When the expansion was finally released a race to 80 quickly ensued. Those that leveled fastest quickly began clearing heroic dungeons and Naxxramas. While more casual members enjoyed the story and beautiful new world Blizzard had crafted. This difference in styles quickly created a rift between more casual and more hardcore members of the guild. The rift eventually ended in drama. A large section of raiders split from Drunken Dragons to form a new guild, Eternal. For a time a truce was established between those that left, and the members that remained loyal to the guild. Progress in Heroic Naxxramas continued successfully while Drunken Dragons continued our recruiting efforts and allowed the public to join our raids. For a brief time we partnered very successfully with Elysium to farm Naxxramas while both guilds expanded membership. As Drunken Dragons recovered, Eternal fell to infighting and dissolved. With the failure of Eternal, many of our friends returned bolstering our ranks. With a fresh start we began clearing Heroic Naxxaramas successfully on our own.

Since that time a new content patch brought us Ulduar. We have been steadily progressing into the instance ever since its release. Currently we are ironing out two 10-man teams to progress into the dungeon and dedicate one night a week to work on Heroic Ulduar, testing the current limits of our progression. We typically raid weeknights as member schedules allow, and then race over the weekend to clear as much content as possible. Our largest raids are Friday and Saturday night lasting from 8pm until 11pm server time.
